It makes use of innovative and cutting edge technology, being both a grid tied and off grid solar Inverter. It’s effectively 4 machines in one and is the heart, brain and muscle of your system.
with integrated MPPT technology and advanced Battery management system - to prolong the life of your batteries.
It replaces the function of charge controllers, MPPT devices, automatically switching between grid-tied mode and stand-alone-mode (as an off grid system); just depends what is the need at that stage. It can even be web connected and you can monitor your system’s performance from an internet connected PC anywhere.
The preferred mode is grid connected; where the SMS inverter automatically first feeds generated solar power to your loads; at the same time it will charge your battery bank (in case of grid failure or load shedding) Excess power is fed into the grid, effectively making your meter run backwards (one of the prettiest sights since the invention of the electricity meter and can bring tears of joy to even a grown man...)
At night - when you don’t generate power from your Panels, the inverter automatically uses energy from the grid. Effectively using your energy you “stored” on the grid during the day. With the correct amount of solar panels and right size inverter you should, after this yo-yo effect of power transfer, have a zero balance at the end of a month.
Add a couple of panels and you actually become a supplier of energy to Eskom.
Back to Grid failure or load shedding scenario;
as a safety measure (if technicians are working on the grid). The moment the grid goes off, Your SMS inverter will automatically switch to be in 'off grid mode'. If the power generated from your solar array is enough for loads, the Inverter will charge excess electricity to your battery bank. If there’s no PV input and grid is still off, it will automatically use power from your battery bank. Intelligently doing its thing; simplifying your life. You’ll probably only notice the grid went off when you see the rest of the neighborhood doesn’t have lights! Enjoy...
Once grid power comes on again, it will automatically switch to grid connected mode again.
